Dry skin and dehydrated skin Are they the same or are they different?

Those who are a little worried about skin care; I'm sure you are familiar with the terms Dry skin and Dehydrated skin. But if you are asked, are the two different? Does the answer seem a little confusing?

Don't worry, there are many like you who are confused as well. So I wrote today’s article to give you a clear idea and to clear out the confusion. Let me tell you at the beginning that dry and dehydrated skin are two different things!

So, what's the difference?

Dry skin is a type of skin. Like, normal, oily etc. But dehydrated skin is skin condition. Many might think that only dry skin gets dehydrated. But no! Whatever the skin type, normal or oily skin, can also be dehydrated.

On the other hand, the lack of adequate oil or lipids causes the skin to dry. And the skin gets dehydrated when there is less water in the upper layer of the skin.

How do I know, if my skin is dry or dehydrated?

I know that this question is spinning in your head right now! You can tell by noticing some of the features. Skin drying or becoming rough are common signs of dry skin. But if the skin is dehydrated, a branch-like pattern shows or the skin becomes too sensitive. Besides, aging problems like fine-lines and wrinkles can also start to show.

Cause of dehydration

I've said so before, that the skin is dehydrated due to lack of adequate water. There are other reasons too. Like UV ray from the sun, hot  showers, being under air conditioning for a long period, using products that are too harsh or too light, not taking regular care of the skin, these can also cause the skin to dehydrate.

So, how to avoid dehydration?

Follow these simple tips and easily avoid skin dehydration!

Exfoliation once a week

You might wonder “what does exfoliation have to do with dehydration?” Duh! It’s Simple! If you don't exfoliate, dead cells are collected. As a result, the hydration of the moisturizer is not properly absorbed, and you don’t get the full benefit of a moisturizer. Proper moisturizing is very important to keep skin hydrated, soft and healthy. Exfoliating once a week will remove the dead cells, and allow the moisturizer to work well.

Keep a serum in the skin care routine

Another small step, add serum to the skin care routine. There are different types of serum available in the market, gel or liquid based serum is available, and it is much  lighter than moisturizer. When applying moisturizer, applying serum before that helps lock the moisturizer properly.

Serum with hyaluronic acid helps keep your skin hydrated. You’re probably thinking “what is hyaluronic acid?”
In current beauty trends, hyaluronic acid is very popular, and is used in many beauty products.  Hyaluronic acid prevents the aging effects of the skin and keeps skin hydrated by holding in water. So, serum/moisturizer with hyaluronic acid is a very good solution for skin hydration.

Heavy moisturizer in skin care at night

Our skin may lose moisture even when we sleep at night. So, apply a heavy moisturizer before you go to bed. It will lock the skin's moisture and keep the skin hydrated overnight.
